The Postgraduate Course in Beer Sommelier is offered by the School of Hospitality and Tourism of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. The course structure and curriculum are designed to include close col-laboration with the Brewers? Association.

This postgraduate programme aims to specialise future professionals for the beer sector, particularly in sales, hospitality, and catering, while also enhancing the skills of those already working in the in-dustry.

The craft beer market has expanded significantly in recent years, reflecting a growing demand for dis-tinctive products. However, this dynamic sector faces challenges, particularly the shortage of quali-fied professionals.

In response to this need, the creation of a Postgraduate Course in Beer Sommelier is a strategic initia-tive to address market demands. The course seeks to train professionals capable of enhancing the gastronomic experience by promoting sophisticated pairings between craft beers and cuisine. Fur-thermore, it will contribute to the promotion of national beer culture and strengthen the hospitality sector, aligning with current consumer trends and the increasing recognition of craft beer in Portugal.

The Postgraduate Course in Beer Sommelier adopts a multidisciplinary approach and is structured over one academic semester, comprising seven course units, with a strong emphasis on the scientific fields of hospitality and catering.
